The African Centre for Peace Building offers volunteer opportunities to students and professionals from around the globe:
Areas of operation:
1. Teaching in deprived basic schools, Junior and Senior High Schools in rural areas- Rural Peace Project. Dates: January 30 - April 10, May 20 - August 8, October 1 - December 15 of every year. Duration of volunteering: Minimum of 1months (four weeks)
The below categories have a minimum volunteering duration of two weeks:
2. Community Peace Education in rural areas ( Rural Peace Project). This involves educating communities, schools pupils and the the general public on the need to use dialogue to resolve their difference through classroom teachings, focus group discussion, workshops etc. Dates: May 20 - August 8, 2011.
3. Health Campaign in Rural Communities (Health Missions - click here to see qualification ). This involves eyes and breast screening, HIV/AIDS Test, Clean-up exercises, Education on how to use herbal medicines as first aid under hygienic conditions, etc. May 20, 2011 - June 20, 2011
5. Provision of support to orphanages ... May 20, 2011 - August 8, 2011
Interested people (students on vacations, SHS graduate awaiting for result and any other interested person both home and foreign) can apply for the programmes.
Conditions of Service:
1. All volunteers would undergo an intensive capacity building training to equip them enough for the task.
1. Accommodation, feeding (local dishes) and security would be provided to the volunteers in the various communities they would be posted to. After the end of the programme a grand event would be organized to award certificates of participation.
